With so many manufacturers having moved to automated inventory controls it would seem that many inventories are more efficient and having much higher fill rates. Has everyone seen a similar situation?

Although many complain, I have always been a big fan of GM's RIM. When managed properly, RIM takes the guess work out of parts inventory. The only downfall is 15 month no sale. Subaru PartsEye has a similar, yet far better program, with only 9 months no sale.
